Losing Weight Through Exercise Is Easy When You Have The Proper Mind set

By Stephanie Wilkinsen

Many adults today must face a quickly growing and harsh reality. Most of us are overweight, and getting more so every year. As much as we would like it to, the problem is not going to go away by itself. And despite many promises made by different people trying to sell you something, you are going to have put in some effort on a regular basis to solve this potentially deadly problem.

In order to lose weight, and keep it off, you just adjust two important aspects of your lifestyle. The food you eat, and the activity that you do. If you think only in the short term, as in "go on a diet," you likely won't achieve lasting results, as you will be only thinking in temporary terms. But when you think in terms of "lifestyle changes," you'll have much more success. In this article I'll be talking primarily about exercise.

When people start a weight loss plan, they usually shoot for a lot. While this is generally a good way to set goals, it can be difficult for weight loss. If you shoot for too much, too soon, it's easy to get discouraged. Many people find their willpower vanishes after only a couple of weeks of high intensity workouts on a daily basis.

In order to get some real, lasting results, we need to change this mind set. We need to get out the "full throttle" mind set and change over to a slow and gradual approach. Think of your ideal exercise, goal, and just plan on achieving it in a few months, instead of tomorrow night. This will give your body much needed time to adjust to the changes.

The best way to get started is to do whatever is easiest for you. If you already belong to a gym, then great. If you don't, don't worry about it. Do a few simple exercises at home until you firmly establish the habit. Most people find that they can do a couple of sit ups and push ups in the morning, and maybe five minutes of yoga.

When you take the slow approach, you will have much more success. You will give your mind and body time to not only accept, but enjoy the changes in your lifestyle. Because healthy lifestyle changes are always enjoyable over the long run. - 33373
