Designing a Diet

* Get rid of junk foods from your home if possible - ie. chips, ice cream, pizza. They bring in a lot of extra calories. They also sacrifice your health. Save junk foods for the once per week "treat" with a maximum of 500 extra calories. * Meals that are based around a protein, a carbohydrate (fruit, vegetable or grain), and a fat. Is complete meal.

* Eat something before morning exercise and don't skip breakfast. You could end up burning muscle tissue.

No need to measure broccoli, you can guesstimate it and similar vegetables (ie. things with 20 or fewer calories per serving). * Intake at least 1 gram of protein per pound of goal weight (ie. if you would like to weigh 120 lbs, eat at least 120g of protein per day).

Advance Planning of Meals

Nutrition diary's can help plan meals based on your desired caloric and macro-nutrient intake. You can either add the meals the day before, or you can use a word processor or spreadsheet program to write up week long meal plans in advance. Planning in advance helps with staying compliant to the meal plan as there are no "last minute" decisions to be made, and you can precook and store in tupperware in advance. Most meats last at most 4 days in the refrigerator, so advance cooking requires cooking twice per week or freezing of some meals.

Meal Examples/Ideas

1. 100 grams of cooked chicken breast, 2/3 cup cooked brown rice, 6 walnut halves, 1 cup strawberries.

2. 4 oz cooked measure sirloin steak, 1 cup broccoli, 200 grams sweet potato.

3. 0.5 cups 2% fat cottage cheese, 1 cup cubed cantaloupe

4. 3 oz shaved home cooked turkey breast, 2 slices 100% whole wheat bread, mustard or light mayo, 1 oz light cheddar sliced. Calorie Counting and Tracking Macro-nutrients

Three macro-nutrients are protein, carbohydrates and fats. Protein has 4 calories per gram, carbohydrates have 4 calories per gram, and fats have 9 calories per gram. Fiber contains between 0 and 2 calories per gram but we don't explicitly take this into account when doing ratios (just use total carbs, it will be close enough). Alcohol contains 7 calories per gram. Macro-nutrient Ratios

The percent of calories coming from a macro-nutrient ratio gives you the carbohydrates, protein or fat.

Being strict with a particular ratio is not good, and the one you favor will be dependent on you. There is also no need to switch ratios when switching from cutting to bulking (although, you may wish to make changes for increased satiety when cutting, or decreased fullness when bulking). A macro-nutrient ratio gives you the percent of calories from each nutrient in your diet. Here are a few suggestions (again, no need to be strict):

Make sure that you are getting at least 1g of protein per pound of "goal" body weight. For fat loss, goal body weight is where you would like to end up. For muscle gain, use the body weight you expect to be in 6 months. So if you would like to weigh 120 lbs, then you would want at least 120 g of protein. As well, for dieting, 20% fat intake could put your fat intake very low, I suggest for most women to intake at least 40g of fat per day. Example

Needing 2000 calories, you are using a 40% carbohydrates, 40% protein, and 20% fat ratio (often written 40c/40p/20f), then you calculate the grams of each by the following calculation: You will be aiming for 200 grams of carbohydrates, 200 grams of protein, and 44 grams of fat per day. Assuming you are aiming for 5 meals a day, the easiest way to determine approximately what to intake per meal, is by dividing these numbers by 5.

The simple way to count calories and track macro-nutrients (protein, carbohydrates and fat) is through the use of free calorie tracking software such as Nutridiary. You simply add the foods in that you ate that day or, preferably, plan in advance by skipping ahead to the next day(s), and entering ahead of time.

As reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), part of the problem may be that American society has become "obesogenic,". As reported by researchers at the University of California-Davis, that evaluated the types of food commercials observed by kids who watch English- and Spanish-language TV programs. During high viewing times for kids (Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons). Recordings were made of broadcasts on twelve networks, which included children's cable channels, networks that attract older youths, mainstream English-language channels, and the two highest rated Spanish language channels.

An aggregate of 5,724 commercials were recorded. Of these, 1,162 were food-related. Kids were shown an average of 5.2 food related commercials per hour. Of these commercials, more than 70 percent were for unhealthful foods (foods with increased sugar and/or elevated fat content), which add to childhood obesity. Thirty-four percent of the advertisements were for fast-food restaurants and convenience items.

The highest share of food-related advertisements were seen on children's networks, where the ads were for the most part for sugary cereals and sweets, high-fat foods, fast-food restaurant fare, and snacks. Compared with programming for a general audience, children's networks exposed its watchers to 76 percent more food advertisements each hour than the other networks. Children that watch TV on a children's network during Saturday morning from 7 to 10 AM are shown approximately one food commercial every eight minutes.

Older kids continue to be exposed to unhealthful food advertisements. The researchers watched programming such as the music videos offered by BET and MTV. They reported that 80 percent of the MTV food ads were for fast food restaurants, sugary beverages, and sweets.

The publishers of the research, which was published in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior, wrote that "Study after study has documented the adverse health effects of food advertising targeting children and adolescents." They went on to state that "School- and family-based programs that have attempted to reduce children's media use have shown promise." But because kids are exposed to food ads by other media, particularly the Internet, the authors propose the introduction of "nutrition-focused media literary interventions" to help young people understand the economic motives of food advertisers and the techniques the industry practices to increase desire for their products. Lemon Juice Detox - Important Facts and Correct Recipe

The lemon juice detox isn't right for everyone, but it was certainly right for me. Not only have I now lost 33lbs in weight, I have regained my energy and I no longer seem susceptible to every cold and flu bug that passes my way. I feel healthier, happier and really pleased that I decided to give this a go - after much aprehension.

I found when I first did my research that there were many conflicting opinions on the detox and even more conflicting recipes. So I'd like to set the record straight on the recipe first. The correct recipe for the Lemon Juice Detox is;

* 8 fl oz's Purest Spring Water

* 2 TBL Spns Fresh Lemon Juice - use organic if you compress the skins

* 2 Tbl Spns of Pure Maple Syrup - Grade B

* One Tenth of a Teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper

You're done, there is nothing else that you need to add to this mix - regardless of what you might hear. You don't need to invest in special palm oils or ingredients, just use what I have given you above.

For FIFTY years, this has been the recipe of choice and it's based on the Master Cleanse by Stanley Burroughs. Although you might be inclined to tweak it and try other versions, I would encourage you to give this tried and tested version a go as it has proven results.

To help you filter out any confusion about this and version of the detox diet, let me give you some of the names thrown about that are all fundamentally based on the original Master Cleanse, I'm sure you've heard of some of the following; the Lemon Detox Diet, the Maple Syrup Diet (made famous by Beyonce), Lemonade Diet, Cayenne Pepper Diet, Lemon Juice Detox and Lemon Detox.

You should be aware that it's not a walk in the park, and anyone that tells you it's a breeze is probably trying to sell you something. The fact is - it's hard when you first start it and parts of it, like the Salt Water Flush (in the version I do) is quite vile but you have to weigh up the pro's against the cons. Also, you do get used to the salt water flush and after a few days of your body adapting, you start to feel amazing. However, I can fully appreciate why some people don't make it past day 1 or feel rubbish and give up by day 3.

I remember that around day 4 I was suffering some awful headaches and this is common, but even then I focused on my health and weightloss and got through it.

So - what's the good news then? Well, by day 4-5 you will start to feel amazing. Your body is now in full detox and eliminating all of the poisons you've ben carrying around and building up. You'll feel moments of complete peace and elation, it really is quite unlike anything I've ever experienced. I planned to do seven days on my first detox, this rose to ten and I finally finished on day nineteen!

What happens now? well, I would always recommend that you check out with a health professional that you're good to go. There are many, many health professionals supporting the detox and it's proven results of lowered blood pressure.

It is easy to blame obesity on various factors but knowing the source of issues that are the core of the 'why' you can begin to work on those issues. If you can find these sources then it will help you why you go for certain behavioral patterns to over eat.
